In the film, Pitt embodies the role of an astronaut embarking on a fateful mission that takes the audience to the edge of the solar system, where he embodies the role of Roy McBride, who tries to stave off a new threat to the planet that is causing catastrophic energy waves. McBride embarks on a journey to find his father, an astronaut whose role is star Tommy Lee Jones, who was lost more than a decade ago during a mission to Neptune.
The movie takes place in the near future where it is imagined that humans have been able to establish stations to live and conduct research on the moon and Mars and thus the path of the hero's journey passes spectacular scenes of empty open space and scenic.
